Weapons Companies in Schools (MAPW)

Minors & Missiles report by MAPW

Weapons Companies & Influence

The proliferation of weapons is one of the greatest threats to peace today.

The global weapons industry profits from war and insecurity, and is associated with corruption and human rights violations.

The Australian government has committed to making Australia a ‘top ten’ arms exporter, investing billions of dollars to grow a domestic arms industry.

Our research shows major weapons companies seek to build positive brand recognition amongst Australian primary and secondary students, and attract the ‘best and brightest’ young people into careers in the arms industry through interference in STEM education.

The intrusion of weapons companies into children’s lives is a moral and social issue that undermines educational values, promotes militarism, and inures children to war and the human cost of the development, trade, and use of weapons.

Protests at HSBC bank and EOS office in Sydney March 2020

HSBC is a bank that does harm. It invests in harming people.
HSBC and EOS are partners in war-crime and #WarCrimesMatter

HSBC invests money in an Australian company that sells arms to Saudi Arabia. Electro Optic Systems (EOS) sells a lethal missile fire system: R400s to Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

There is proof via photos of their products at Sydney airport. Both countries EOS sell to have been involved in war crimes in Yemen, bombing civilians and civilian infrastructure. Bombing civilians is a war crime. The war in Yemen is 6 years old in March 2021. It’s possible that EOS is also selling to other war torn environments and dictatorships such as Mali and Congo given that their weapons exports are increasing significantly and 90% of their income is exports.

CEO: Dr Ben Greene is the founding (1983) CEO and still incumbent.

“This innovative technology for the first time allows 30 mm cannon systems to be deployed with unprecedented accuracy on light vehicles, significantly enhancing lethality and protection without compromising mobility, and at low cost,”

Dr Ben Greene.

International Sales and Relationships

Saudi Arabia and UAE: EOS was the subject of extensive investigation by the ABC (Dylan Welsh) in 2018 and 2019. Evidence was found at Sydney airport that they were selling the R200 directly to Saudi Arabia. And dozens of units had gone already to UAE.

The UAE had an Australian General as head of their special forces (the Presidential Guard), Mike Hindmarsh. Presumably he is involved in the acquisitions.

#StopArmingSaudi became a hashtag used at this time

The AACC, Australian Arms Control Coalition formed in this year to attend to this issue of arms to Saudi, despite the signing in 2015 of the Arms Control Treaty which prohibits sale of weapons to countries committing HRV and war crimes.

Indonesia: EOS are in the Indonesian weapons market, selling via their US subsidiary.

Reportedly 7 units of Komodo and 13 units of Anoa are the first batch of Pindad products equipped with the RCWS EOS R400S Mk2.”

Collaborations

Northrop Grumman (USA)

Formed in 1983 the EOS Group of companies became a publicly-traded company on the Australian Stock Exchange in 2002. In 2005 EOS formed a strategic alliance with Northrop Grumman (USA) for the further exploitation of common technologies in the space and military sectors.

EM Solutions

Brisbane-based EM Solutions has had a successful first year of ownership under EOS, with continued strong growth, new contract wins and significant technology development.

This year the company has delivered its tri-band Cobra satellite communications terminals into the Australian Navy’s Anzac frigate upgrade and new Offshore Patrol Vessel programs, and in November shipped the first of a series of Cobra terminals as part of a new AU$14 million order for three NATO Navies. EM Solutions has also recently received an AU$3 million order from a US prime contractor supplying manpack satellite terminals into a US Defense program. These terminals will incorporate EM Solutions’ Ka-band transceivers which are based on the same core technology that has been supplied over recent years into numerous maritime, airborne and land mobile platforms.

Stewart looks delighted to receive $5 billion in taxpayer money to build weaponized vehicles for the ADF. Then PM Scott Morrison, at the launch of the MILVEHCOE (Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence) in Redbank, Qld, declared “I loved what you had to say, Gary, about our defence industry, our defence purchasing and procurement here in Australia. We’re going from importer to exporter. That’s a full 180 degree turnaround.”

That’s $5 billion of our money to help Rheinmetall make and sell killing technology. Keep reading! To find contact details, company information and a selection of images of Rheinmetall weapons.

Rheinmetall have also extracted money from the GST revenue of the average Queenslander. In order to operate here Rheinmetall demanded a significant dowry from Queenslanders. A significant piece of land at Redbank and a free building worth $170million. Thank you Queenslanders! Similarly they demanded money to set up a factory at Maryborough though it is unclear how much they received for that.

They have combined with Nioa to make Rheinmetall Nioa Munitions RNM.

LOCATIONS: Rheinmetall and RNM

BRISBANE – Redbank. Weaponized Armoured Vehicle factory and maintenance facility
MARYBOROUGH RNM – Munitions – opening in 2022

Rheinmetall’s website boasts:
